Fronted by the rather disconcerting Beth Ditto Gossip have had a rather fluctuating career since they burst onto the mainstream with the gold-selling Standing In The Way Of Control. Their next album Music For Men was an even greater success, going platinum and gold throughout Europe.
A Joyful Noise was a disappointment. With mixed reviews it received a rather grey reception from the critics, slated as being boring lackluster and as evidence that Gossip had “disastrously lost their fire”. Its third single, Get A Job, doesn’t improve things; though it had some of Ditto’s famous fire it’s quite repetitive, and a bit lazy sounding.
Highly unoriginal and barely deserving of a second look Get A Job makes us wonder if Ditto, Howdeshell and Billie should take their own advice.
