Starring newcomer Jonny Weston and directed by Curtin Hanson, Chasing Mavericks is the inspirational true story of surfing legend Jay Moriarity (jonny Weston). When the fifteen year old surfing prospect Jay discovers that the mythical mavericks surf break, one of the biggest waves on earth, is real and close by he enlists local legend Frosty Hessen (Gerard Butler) to train him. Made with some of the world’s foremost surfers and featuring some of the most mind blowing action footage ever captured on film, Mavericks sees Jay and Frosty form a unique friendship that transforms their lives.
SHOULD YOU SEE IT?
A film in the same vein as Lords Of Dogtown without the balls or concrete, Chasing Mavericks is a big brother, coming of age type movie that seems a little too calm to be a decent surfing film, its biggest saving grace being its use of real-life footage.
Way too calm, and a little too cuddly.
