British Academy Film Awards Nominations Announced

The nominations for the 2013 EE British Academy Film Awards were unveiled this morning by Alice Eve and Jeremy Irvine at BAFTA HQ in Piccadilly, London.

With the selections not particularly surprising a number of films did better than others. Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln predictably led the way with ten nods, leaving Les Miserables, Life Of Pi, Skyfall and Argo yapping at its heels.

Perhaps surprising though was the success of Keira Knightley’s cooly received Anna Karenina. Despite its missable reception it managed to scoop six nominations.

A real shame, and a bit of a mistake we feel, was the lack of attention given to the The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Despite topping the UK box office for the fourth weekend in a row, Peter Jackson’s first of three installments only managed three nods.

The ceremony itself will be hosted by Stephen Fry at London’s Royal Opera House on Sunday February 10th.
