SYNOPSIS
Inspired by real events The Sapphires follows four spirited and talented Australian Aboriginal girls as they learn about love, friendship and conflict while entertaining US troops in war-torn, 1968 Vietnam. Discovered by the animated Dave (Chris O’Dowd), Cynthia (Miranda Tapsell), Gail (Deborah Mailman) Julie (Jessica Mauboy) and Kay (Shari Sebbens) are shaped into real soul sisters by the knowledgeable but ruthless talent scout, and given their first taste of super-stardom.
SHOULD YOU SEE IT?
While it does look a little silly, something that Chris O’Dowd can make work just by himself, The Sapphires looks to be a movie with as many hidden depths and inspirational moments as The Help.
VERDICT?
The Sapphires will sing their way to glittering success.
